Password-protect a PDF
For a payslip, a medical report or a tax return you have to send by email.
Without an account your documents are kept for 24 hours; sign in with Google, LinkedIn or GitHub to keep them.
How to do it
- 1
Upload the PDF
From your computer or phone.
- 2
Choose Download with a password
Write the password: without it, nobody can open the file.
- 3
Send it
And share the password by another channel.
What's different in aval
AES-256
Strong encryption that every PDF reader can open with the password.
Remove a password
If you know it, Remove password leaves the PDF ready to edit, sign or merge.
It checks every document
When you upload it, aval looks for blank pages, upside-down scans, pages without text and empty signature fields, and offers the fix.
Your file stays with aval
It's processed on our servers and stored encrypted with your account's key. It isn't sent to other services, shown ads, or used to train AI.
Questions
Does aval keep the password?
No. It's used to encrypt the file and then discarded.
Can you open a PDF if I forgot the password?
No. Without the password, an AES-256 PDF can't be opened, by aval or anyone else.
Other tools
- Redact PDF Hide an ID number, an address or an account number so it can't be copied: aval removes the text, it doesn't just cover it.
- Sign PDF Sign a PDF by drawing, typing or with an image of your signature, or digitally with your .p12 certificate. And check other people's signatures.
- Compress PDF Make a PDF lighter for email or an upload form. Three levels, an estimate before you start, and the original is kept.
