Recognize the text of a scan
A scan is a picture of text: you can't search it or copy it. OCR turns it into text, and the page looks the same.
Without an account your documents are kept for 24 hours; sign in with Google, LinkedIn or GitHub to keep them.
How to do it
- 1
Upload the scan
A PDF or photos. The inspector tells you which pages have no text.
- 2
Recognize the text
Choose the language. Pages that already have text are left as they are.
- 3
Search, copy or archive it
Find a word in all your documents, or save it as PDF/A, the format meant for long-term archiving.
What's different in aval
Straightened too
Crooked or upside-down pages can be fixed along the way.
See what it read
View the text shows, page by page, what the machine understood, to copy it or check it.
It checks every document
When you upload it, aval looks for blank pages, upside-down scans, pages without text and empty signature fields, and offers the fix.
Your file stays with aval
It's processed on our servers and stored encrypted with your account's key. It isn't sent to other services, shown ads, or used to train AI.

Other tools
- Scan to PDF Use your phone camera as a scanner: up to 50 pages, straightened, with the text recognized, in one PDF.
- PDF to Word Turn a PDF into an editable Word document. If it's a scan, aval recognizes the text first.
- Compress PDF Make a PDF lighter for email or an upload form. Three levels, an estimate before you start, and the original is kept.
